luckily is almost over, performances are next week, one on Friday, two
on Saturday, which means I gotta skip work for those days.

  • Whoo! I made it into West Side Story! AWesomeness! I'm a Puerto Rican! Yay! I feel good today, wouldn't you?

  • West Side story auditions today! Dancing part, I already sang my part.
I hope I make it, but even if I don't, oh well, I shall just rejoin my
tech brethren and do stage design and costumes and maybe make up since
we lack in good make up artisits. But if I do make it, I wanna be a
Puerto Rican, they were soo much more awesome then the stupid Jets!
    Whoo!
"I Feel Pretty" starts to play in my head...

yesterday, which is so much fun!  Not much to do, think I'll
listen to my cd some more.

  • today is a tragic day, very tragic indeed, my great grandmother passed away at 9 pm today. May she rest in peace.

  • head still swimming in a sea of confusion. I think I pissed off my English teacher and my Hon Modern World History. Oops.
I have decided for homecoming costume day I shall be a Japanese
schoolgirl, yes, a schoolgirl, and then I shall put the pics on a
dating website. Yay! Angelina Jolie licking blood, very very sexy...>u<

  • bored still, still nothing to do, very bored indeed. If only there was a rabbit or something I could follow, if only...

I wonder, what could a rabbit possibly be late for?

  • tired, so tired. Babysitting and cleaning and looking up Les Miz and
West Side Story lyrics. Here's one of my favorites, the Lovely Ladies
Song, or the ode to the dockside whores.

Ladies & Clients - Lovely Ladies Lyrics

[The docks. Sailors, whores and their customers, pimps, etc. Fantine wanders in]

    [SAILOR ONE]
    I smell women
    Smell 'em in the air
    Think I'll drop my anchor
    In that harbor over there

    [SAILOR TWO]
    Lovely ladies
    Smell 'em through the smoke
    Seven days at sea
Can make you hungry for a poke

    [SAILOR THREE]
Even stokers need a little stoke!

    [WOMEN]
    Lovely ladies
    Waiting for a bite
    Waiting for the customers
    Who only come at night
    Lovely ladies
    Ready for the call
    Standing up or lying down
    Or any way at all
Bargain prices up against the wall

    [OLD WOMAN]
    Come here, my dear
Let's see this trinket you wear
    This bagatelle...

    [FANTINE]
Madame, I'll sell it to you...

    [OLD WOMAN]
    I'll give you four

    [FANTINE]
That wouldn't pay for the chain!

    [OLD WOMAN]
I'll give you five. You're far to eager to sell.
    It's up to you.

    [FANTINE]
    It's all I have

    [OLD WOMAN]
    That's not my fault

    [FANTINE]

    [OLD WOMAN]
    No more than five
My dear, we all must stay alive!

    [WOMEN]
    Lovely ladies
    Waiting in the dark
    Ready for a thick one
Or a quick one in the park
    Whore 1
    Long time short time
    Any time, my dear
Cost a little extra if you want to take all year!

    [ALL]
Quick and cheap is underneath the pier!

    [CRONE]
    What pretty hair!
What pretty locks you got there
What luck you got. It's worth a centime, my dear
    I'll take the lot

    [FANTINE]
Don't touch me! Leave me alone!

    [CRONE]
    Let's make a price.
I'll give you all of ten francs,
    Just think of that!

    [FANTINE]
    It pays a debt

    [CRONE]
    Just think of that

    [FANTINE]
What can I do? It pays a debt.
Ten francs may save my poor Cosette!

    [SAILOR THREE]
    Lovely lady!
    Fastest on the street
    Wasn't there three minutes
She was back up on her feet

    [SAILOR ONE]
    Lovely lady!
    What yer waiting for?
Doesn't take a lot of savvy
    Just to be a whore
    Come on, lady
    What's a lady for?

[Fantine re-emerges, her long hair cut short]

    [PIMP]
Give me the dirt, who's that bit over there?

    [WHORE ONE]
A bit of skirt. She's the one sold her hair.

    [WHORE TWO]
She's got a kid. Sends her all that she can

    [PIMP]
    I might have known
    There is always some man
Lovely lady, come along and join us!
    Lovely lady!

    [WHORE ONE]
Come on dearie, why all the fuss?
You're no grander than the rest of us
Life has dropped you at the bottom of the heap
    Join your sisters

    [WHORE TWO]
    Make money in your sleep!

[Fantine goes off with one of the sailors]

    [WHORE ONE]
That's right dearie, let him have the lot

    [WHORE THREE]
That's right dearie, show him what you've got!

    [WOMEN]
Old men, young men, take 'em as they come
Harbor rats and alley cats and every kind of scum
Poor men, rich men, leaders of the land
See them with their trousers off they're never quite as grand
All it takes is money in your hand!

    Lovely ladies
    Going for a song
    Got a lot of callers
But they never stay for long

    [FANTINE]
    Come on, Captain,
    you can wear your shoes
    Don't it make a change
To have a girl who can't refuse
    Easy money
    Lying on a bed
Just as well they never see
The hate that's in your head
Don't they know they're making love
    To one already dead!

Then there is the infamous, I Feel Pretty song inspired by U Hsen's xangasite...

Nixon, Marni - I Feel Pretty Lyrics

    MARIA
    I feel pretty,
    Oh, so pretty,
I feel pretty and witty and bright!
    And I pity
Any girl who isn't me tonight.

    I feel charming,
    Oh, so charming
It's alarming how charming I feel!
    And so pretty
That I hardly can believe I'm real.

See the pretty girl in that mirror there:
Who can that attractive girl be?
    Such a pretty face,
    Such a pretty dress,
    Such a pretty smile,
    Such a pretty me!

    I feel stunning
    And entrancing,
Feel like running and dancing for joy,
    For I'm loved
    By a pretty wonderful boy!

    GIRLS
Have you met my good friend Maria,
The craziest girl on the block?
You'll know her the minute you see her,
She's the one who is in an advanced state of shock.

    She thinks she's in love.
    She thinks she's in Spain.
    She isn't in love,
    She's merely insane.

    It must be the heat
    Or some rare disease,
    Or too much to eat
    Or maybe it's fleas.

    Keep away from her,
    Send for Chino!
    This is not the
    Maria we know!

    Modest and pure,
    Polite and refined,
    Well-bred and mature
    And out of her mind!

    MARIA
    I feel pretty,
    Oh, so pretty
That the city should give me its key.
    A committee
Should be organized to honor me.

    GIRLS
    La la la la . . .

    MARIA
    I feel dizzy,
    I feel sunny,
I feel fizzy and funny and fine,
    And so pretty,
    Miss America can just resign!

    GIRLS
    La la la la . . .

    MARIA
See the pretty girl in that mirror there:

    GIRLS
    What mirror where?

    MARIA
Who can that attractive girl be?

    GIRLS
    Which? What? Where? Whom?

    MARIA
    Such a pretty face,
    Such a pretty dress,
    Such a pretty smile,
    Such a pretty me!

    GIRLS
    Such a pretty me!

    ALL
    I feel stunning
    And entrancing,
Feel like running and dancing for joy,
    For I'm loved
    By a pretty wonderful boy!
